Friday 2/8/08 10 AM

It was a normal wonderful start to their day.  As they each commuted to their own offices earlier that morning Norma called Ken to ask him to tune in a certain radio station because one of their favorite songs was playing.  After arriving at her destination Norma began experiencing a severe headache.  The pain spread to her neck.  After 911 was called, those at her side tried to help by laying cool towels on her head and neck.  As she was being carted to the ambulance she asked them if they would please bring her purse and coat along.  It was quickly diagnosed that Norma had experienced a brain aneurysm.  The hospital in Joliet promptly decided to have her airlifted to the University if Illinois Hospital in Chicago.  The first miracle had already occurred because so many do not even make it to the hospital.

Day 2 - Saturday 2/9/08 6:35 PM

During five hours of brain surgery Saturday morning the surgeons clamped off the ruptured area.  Norma's condition is still critical and she will be in ICU for at least the next two weeks.  The following 12-14 days could bring several complications, such as more bleeding and stroke, so they will monitor her very carefully.  Please pray for Norma, Ken and the physicians taking care of her as they go through this very difficult and frightening time.

Day 4 - Monday 2/11/08 10:03 AM

(Voice mail from Ken at 5:30 this morning)   Ken said Norma is having a CAT scan this morning.  She had a rough night but is doing good overall.  He is overwhelmed with all the kind thoughts, phone calls and concern expressed by family, friends and co-workers.  He really appreciates all of your prayers.

Day 4 - Monday 2/11/08 3:05 PM

Ken asked that we give you an update on Norma's condition.  He said she is as feisty as she usually is.  She keeps trying to get up to go to work and keep her appointments.  However, she becomes disoriented and doesn't always realize where she is.  Ken met with the surgeon this afternoon.  The surgeon said that it is not a good idea to have too many visitors.  It may confuse her at this point to see too many different faces.  It is just too much stimulus and may actually cause her harm.  Ken said he is completely overwhelmed with the support they have received from everyone during this difficult time and appreciates so many wanting to come downtown to the hospital to see them.  However, it would be beneficial to Norma if people would wait until she is out of ICU which will be in about two weeks.  Also, Ken said in lieu of flowers, send cash to him ;-), cards to Norma and go home and hug your families.
